Marcus Reyes

Marcus Reyes spent fifteen years working as a licensed claims adjuster, first for a regional auto carrier and later handling complex property and casualty claims for a national insurer. During that time, he reviewed thousands of claims, sat across the table from policyholders on some of the worst days of their lives, and saw firsthand how the fine print in a policy can mean the difference between a smooth recovery and a financial disaster.

After leaving claims work in 2019, Marcus shifted his focus to consumer education, writing about how insurance companies actually evaluate damage, negotiate settlements, and interpret coverage exclusions. He believes most policyholders are never taught how the claims process really works until they need it, and that gap costs people money and peace of mind. His articles for TheInsuranceMag.com focus on demystifying that process: what adjusters look for, how to document a loss properly, and where policyholders most often leave money on the table.

Marcus holds a bachelor's degree in risk management and insurance and previously held adjuster licenses in several states. When he's not writing, he volunteers with a local financial literacy nonprofit, helping first-time homeowners understand their insurance obligations before closing. He lives outside Dover, Delaware, with his wife and two sons.
