Dana Whitfield

Dana Whitfield is a licensed independent insurance agent with more than a decade of experience helping individuals and families compare coverage across auto, home, life, and health policies. Unlike a captive agent who sells for a single carrier, Dana works independently, which means her writing focuses on how to shop across multiple insurers rather than steering readers toward any one company's products.

Dana got her start at a small independent agency in the mid-2010s, where she quickly noticed that most clients had never been walked through what their deductibles, endorsements, or exclusions actually meant in practice. That experience shaped her approach to writing for TheInsuranceMag.com: she aims to translate policy language into plain terms, explain what coverage limits actually protect against, and flag the add-ons that are usually worth the extra premium versus the ones that rarely pay off.

She holds active property and casualty and life and health insurance licenses, and completes continuing education every renewal cycle to stay current as state regulations and carrier products change. Dana is based in the mid-Atlantic region and, outside of work, serves on the board of a community credit union's financial education committee.
